Why is my sewer blocked?

A blocked sewer is at best an inconvenience but at worst can cause flooding, damage to property and a risk to health. It goes without saying that blockages need to be repaired as quickly as possible to keep problems to a minimum.

Blockages are usually caused when fat or grease is poured down the drain and into the sewer system. When it comes into contact with other waste such as wet wipes or nappies, the fat solidifies and forms and solid mass which forms a blockage. Not only does this prevent waste and water from moving through the sewer system, it can also cause the pipes to crack or collapse.

Fat or rubbish aren’t the only causes of sewer problems though and drain pipes can also become blocked when grout, concrete or soil enter the system or tree roots grow through the sewer.

How will you repair my sewer?

First we’ll need to find the source of the problem. Our team use the very latest in CCTV drain survey equipment which uses a camera designed to navigate through the pipes until the damage or blockage is found. Then, depending on the nature of the damage, we’ll blast away the blockage or ingrowing tree roots using a powerful water jet system. This removes the blockage quickly, leaving the inside of the pipes clean without causing any damage.

Although most blockages are short-term problems which are easily rectified, there are times when a drain repair is required. We avoid excavation work where possible and use a no-dig repair technique to re-line or carry out patch repairs as required. A silicone liner is injected into the drain pipe and is then cured using steam or water. This provides a cost-effective solution to the majority of sewer repairs and is robust enough to last for decades to come.
